Build an online donation form from the Donation template. It takes card payments through Stripe and records each gift against the right donor.

Before you start

  • You're an Org admin. Members can see forms, but New form, Save draft and Publish are turned off for them, with the note "Only an organization admin can create forms."
  • Stripe is connected with charges enabled. Until then the Donation template shows Not available and points you to Settings → Integrations.

Steps

  1. Go to Communications and open the Forms tab.
  2. Click New form (or Add new → New form). In Start a new form, find Donation and click Use template. The form opens in the builder.
  3. Under Form basics, set the Form name, Headline and Intro text. Turn on Show branded header & footer if you want your colour header and a footer with your name, charity number and website.
  4. Under Donation settings, enter the Suggested amounts ($) separated by commas. Turn Allow a custom amount on or off.
  5. Turn on Offer monthly (recurring) giving to let donors choose monthly. Turn on Default to monthly if monthly should be pre-selected.
  6. Turn on Offer to cover processing fees if you want donors to be able to add 3% to their gift.
  7. Under Funds donors can choose, pick funds from your fund list. With more than one, donors see a dropdown; with one, it's used automatically. The choice becomes the gift's fund.
  8. Optionally add an Impact line.
  9. Under What happens on submit, choose what Donors does with each donation: Create or update a contact in People, Add to a list / tag, Create a follow-up task, Send a confirmation email to the submitter, Email staff on each submission, and Protect from spam (reCAPTCHA).
  10. Under After they sign up, set the Thank-you headline and Thank-you message donors see after giving.
  11. Check the Live preview on desktop and mobile. Your logo, colours and fonts come from Organization Settings → Branding.
  12. Click Save draft to keep working later, or Publish to make it live. On a form that's already live, the button reads Update.

What happens next

The form shows Published in your forms list. Use Embed or Copy embed to place it on your website, or Open live form to get its public page. Donors pay with card, Apple Pay or Google Pay inside the form. Each successful payment creates a gift in Gifts, matched to the donor by email.

If Stripe can't take live charges yet, publishing fails with: "Connect your Stripe account and enable charges before publishing a live donation form. (Settings → Integrations)".
