Turn on monthly giving so supporters can set up an ongoing donation. Stripe charges their card each month, and each charge is recorded as a gift.
Before you start
- You're an Org admin.
- Stripe is connected with charges enabled.
- A donation form. See "Building a donation form" if you don't have one.
Steps
- Go to Communications → Forms and click Edit on your donation form.
- Under Donation settings, turn on Offer monthly (recurring) giving.
- Optionally turn on Default to monthly so Monthly is pre-selected for donors. The same Suggested amounts ($) are offered for one-time and monthly gifts.
- Check the Live preview: donors now see a One-time / Monthly choice.
- Click Publish, or Update if the form is already live.
What happens next
A donor who picks Monthly sees "Your card will be charged" the amount "today and on the same day each month" and confirms with the Give … monthly button. Their card is held by Stripe, not Donors.
Each successful charge creates a gift linked to the plan. Plans appear under Gifts → Recurring and on the donor's Giving tab under Recurring giving. Each gift is receipted according to the donor's Tax receipt preference, the same as a one-time online gift.
To let donors change, pause or cancel their own gift, publish a Manage giving form. A recurring gift you add by hand from Add gift is different: it starts Pending with no card on file and isn't charged.
