Set up an event with its dates and place, who can register, what each membership level pays, and any continuing-education credits, then publish it.

Before you start

  • Know the start and end times, the location (or that it is online), and any capacity limit.
  • Decide who can register and what each level pays.
  • To offer a ticket for Apple Wallet, membership cards must be set up and turned on first.

Steps

  1. Go to Events and click New event.
  2. Under The basics, enter the Event name, Starts and Ends. Turn on This event is online, or enter a Location.
  3. Optionally set Capacity (blank for no limit) and Registration closes (blank to stay open until the event). Write About this event for the public page.
  4. Under Who can register, choose Members and public, Members only or One chapter only. For one chapter, enter Which chapter.
  5. Under Pricing by membership level, enter a Price for each level, choose its Tax, and optionally a Cap on places at that rate. Enter the Non-member price, its tax and cap on the Non-members row. Leave every price at zero for a free RSVP.
  6. If you are a registered charity, you can enter Value of what an attendee receives so the part of each ticket above it can be receipted. Leave it blank and tickets are not receipted.
  7. Under Continuing education, enter Credits earned (halves are allowed) and a Category, if the event earns credits.
  8. Under Wallet ticket, turn on Offer a ticket for Apple Wallet if you want one.
  9. Click Publish, or Save draft to finish later.

What happens next

A draft has no public page and nobody can register. Once you publish, the public page is live, members can register, and the event page shows Email attendees, Export, View public page and Check-in mode.

A level left without a price pays the non-member price. So does any level you create later.

Someone who registers on the public page with an email address you do not have is added as a new contact, marked with the event that brought them.

You might see these messages when saving:

  • Give the event a name.
  • The event cannot end before it starts.
  • Say which chapter the event is for.
  • Credits are a number, in halves at most.
  • Wallet tickets need wallet cards to be set up and turned on first (Organization Settings → Wallet card). The section is called Membership card in Organization Settings, and only an Org admin can change it.

Once people have registered, a published event cannot go back to a draft. To call it off, open the event and click Cancel this event…. Registrations are kept, nobody is emailed and nothing is refunded automatically.
