Suspend, resign and close are all on the More menu of the member record. Each one asks for a reason, and the reason is recorded on the membership's history.

Before you start

  • Suspend is not offered for a Pending membership, or for one that has already resigned or been closed.
  • Record resignation and Close membership are not offered once a membership has resigned or been closed.
  • Close membership is for a member who has died or an organization that has dissolved. It cannot be reversed.
  • Suspending, lifting a suspension and closing a membership are also written to the audit log.

Steps

  1. Open the member record and click More.
  2. Choose what you need:
    • Suspend
    • Lift suspension (shown instead of Suspend while a membership is suspended)
    • Record resignation
    • Close membership
  3. Type a Reason. The button stays greyed out until the reason is at least 5 characters.
  4. Click Suspend, Lift suspension, Record resignation or Close membership to confirm.

What happens next

You see "Done." and the record updates.

Suspend

  • The status becomes Suspended and the member is Not in good standing, so they lose member pricing and members-only events.
  • The record shows "Suspended. Reason:" followed by your reason.
  • Any membership card is voided and reads "This membership is currently suspended."

Lift suspension

  • The membership returns to whatever status its dates give it.

Record resignation

  • The resignation is effective today and the status becomes Resigned.
  • Their history is kept, renewal notices still to come are cancelled, and auto-renew is turned off.
  • Email consent begins to run out. It lasts for the months set in Email consent lasts, months after membership ends, counted from the resignation date.
  • Any membership card is voided and reads "This membership has ended."
  • A resigned membership cannot be reinstated: Reinstate is only for a Lapsed membership.

Close membership

  • The status becomes Closed. Renewal notices still to come are cancelled and auto-renew is turned off.
  • Any membership card is voided and reads "This membership has ended."

Resigned and closed memberships stay on the record. You can find them, and suspended ones, on Members under the Suspended, resigned, closed tab. A status override does not hide a suspension, resignation or closure.
