Only if your organization is a registered charity, and then only for levels where you turn it on.
Receipting is set per level in Organization Settings → Membership levels. Edit a level and, under Tax receipts, use Issue a charitable tax receipt for dues at this level. It is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, enter the Advantage — the value of what the member receives.
If your organization is not flagged as a registered charity, the switch cannot be turned on and members receive an invoice. The registered-charity flag is set by the 2Labs team, not on this screen. Contact them if it is wrong.
Membership dues usually buy something, such as member rates or a newsletter. That is the advantage, and it reduces the eligible amount. When you save a level with receipting on, Members checks the advantage against the price:
- If the advantage is no more than the lesser of $75 or 10% of the price, it is disregarded and the full payment is eligible. You see a warning saying so.
- If the advantage is more than 80% of the price, no receipt can be issued for dues at that level. You see a warning saying so.
- Otherwise, the eligible amount is the price less the advantage.
The Tax receipt column on the levels list shows On or Off for each level.
Members applies the advantage you enter. Deciding that amount for each level is a conversation with your accountant.
