A banner is a short message strip across the very top of every page — for an appeal, a closure, a weather alert or an event.

Before you start

  • You're a Site admin.
  • A short message, and a link if you want one.

Steps

  1. Go to Site Settings → Announcement banner.
  2. Turn on Show the banner. The Live preview shows how it will look.
  3. Type the Message. Keep it to one short line so it fits on phones.
  4. To add a link, fill in Link label (for example "Learn more") and Link goes to (for example /donate).
  5. Pick a Style for the tone: Info, Alert, Appeal, Event or Success. Use Alert (red) only for urgent notices like a closure.
  6. Optional: turn on Let visitors dismiss it, or set a Schedule with Show from and Hide after dates.
  7. Click Save & publish to send the banner to your site straight away.

What happens next

Save & publish sends the banner on its own — nothing else you're working on goes with it — and the site updates in a minute or two. To hold the banner for your next publish instead, click Save changes.

Only one banner shows at a time: the newest saved message replaces the last one. A banner with a schedule switches itself off after its Hide after date, so there's nothing to remember to take down.
